Suffering an injury due to someone else’s negligence in South Carolina is devastating. If you are the type of person who stays active, your injury downtime can be frustrating. One of the best things you can do for yourself is to find ways to stay active and keep in shape despite your injury.

Shape Magazine explains that you have many options that allow you to be active after an injury stops you in your tracks. You will have to take the initiative and pay attention to your body’s cues to know what is right for you, but here are three tips that can help you as you strive to recover.

1. Work with a physical therapist

A physical therapist knows how to help you and what your body can do even in an injured state. He or she can recommend ways to stay active and avoid the side effects of being sedentary without causing you further injury or delaying recovery.

2. Figure out what you can do

Talking with a physical therapist can give you some good ideas, but you may want to look into additional things you can do. Depending on your injury, you may be able to swim. This is a very low impact exercise and easy on your body. Seated exercises are another option that may work well if you have a lower-body injury.

3. Do not push too hard

Whether you work with a therapist or trainer or by yourself, you have to listen to your body. Pain is not a good thing, especially when you already have an injury. You need to realize that you cannot do as much as you did before and allow your body to have time to bounce back.

Living an active lifestyle is a great goal to have, but after suffering an injury, you may find it is a tough goal to reach. Getting back into working out and being fit is not something you should rush. Take your time and find what works best for you.
