4 infants injured when car crashes into day care facility

Not all car accidents involve a collision between vehicles or even with a pedestrian. People going about their day at home, work or elsewhere can become the victim of a careless or reckless driver.

Earlier this month, a woman ran her car through the wall of a Columbia day care facility, injuring four infants. The babies were taken to a nearby hospital. However, none of them suffered serious injuries.

The incident occurred in the early afternoon on Friday, Jan. 25 at the Cadence Academy Preschool. The driver of the vehicle, a Lexus sedan, told police that she mistakenly pressed the gas pedal rather than the brake. She plowed through a brick wall of the section of the facility where the infants were being cared for.

Photos released by the Columbia Police Department show the aftermath of the crash. In the pictures, furniture is overturned, and there is a large hole where the vehicle (which came to rest inside) went through the wall. A crib is visible outside.

Staff members moved children who were in the facility to other areas until their worried parents could pick them up. Many said that all they knew before they arrived was that an accident had occurred.

Police say they are not citing the driver of the Lexus.

Even when at-fault drivers don't face any traffic violations or criminal charges for their actions, victims can still take civil legal action to seek compensation for medical expenses and other costs as well as damages. An experienced attorney can provide you with more information about your legal options.
